Steve was born and raised in Wichita Falls, Texas. Fun fact: Steve was a waiter in college at a local steakhouse and used to have Dr. Phil as a guest.
After graduating from Midwestern State University, Steve served four years in the US Army stationed at the 1st Infantry Division at FT. Riley, Kansas. Career highlights include serving as a platoon leader in Operation Desert Shield/Storm, being awarded the the Bronze Star, and graduating from the US Army Airborne and Ranger Schools.
After his military service, Steve pursued an MBA and graduated from Baylor University. Steve has worked in both high-tech start-ups, vignette and salesforce.com, and large enterprise companies such as EDS and HPE.
Over the course of his business career, a passion was ignited to help leaders harness the full(er) power of their organizations. This passion was triggered by working for four companies that restructured and laid-off 1,000s of people. During his assignment to the A.T. Kearney team responsible for restructuring EDS beginning in 1997, Steve learned of the myriad of factors that create conditions where the performance of companies forces the executive decision to restructure.
Steve developed a conviction that feedback from the field, programmatic and often, should be a strategic asset for any organization. The phenomenon that Steve consistently found in the companies for which he worked, and the enterprise customers to which he sold and implemented solutions, was, that there was no shortage of ideas on how to improve a process or innovate products, solutions, or methodologies. The ‘real’ shortage was executive awareness of the informal networks of people who connected siloed groups and had a pulse of the operations of the company and its capacity for change.
Steve lives outside of Boulder, Colorado and is the proud father of three wonderful children.
